Our Story

At Ochre & Silk, we believe a home doesn’t need to be perfect, it needs to feel settled.

The spaces we live in shape how we move through our days, how we rest, and how we return to ourselves after everything else has demanded our attention. Our role is to help bring cohesion to these spaces, through lighting, rugs and homewares that quietly hold a room together and support real, everyday life.

We’re Zena and Alanjohn, partners in life and business, and the founders of Ochre & Silk. Our backgrounds span art, design, architecture and finance, but more than anything, our work is shaped by our lived experiences: working towards our dreams with intention, parenting with joy, and learning firsthand how grounded environments allow creativity and connection to flourish amidst change.

We don’t chase trends or design for show. Instead, we curate and create foundational pieces — objects that bring balance, scale and calm to a space, and continue to work as life evolves around them. These are the elements you can return to again and again, even as everything else shifts.

Each piece in our collection is carefully considered and responsibly made, using natural materials and traditional techniques wherever possible. From linen pendants crafted in small batches to handwoven rugs and quietly functional homewares, every object earns its place through usefulness, longevity and restraint.
