Our Story
Ochre and Silk
(Formerly Imprint House)
Timeless design, meaningful craftsmanship.
We’re Zena and Alanjohn — partners in life and in business — and the founders of Ochre & Silk. Drawing on our backgrounds in art, design, and architecture, we curate and create enduring objects that bring beauty, integrity, and story into the spaces we call home.
Ochre & Silk grew from a shared belief: that the things we live with should reflect what we value. We seek out pieces that are not only functional or beautiful, but deeply considered — hand-crafted by skilled makers using natural materials, and shaped by tradition, culture, and thoughtful design. These are objects that feel personal, soulful, and built to last.
Our path here has been shaped by creativity and curiosity.
I (Zena) began as an artist and photographer before moving into interior design, then spent years in business banking and the non-profit world. But I always came back to design — and when our daughter was born, I felt the pull to build something that felt more aligned: slower, more intentional, and rooted in our values.
Alanjohn started as a draftsperson, became an architect, then a sculptor and production designer before returning to complete his master’s in landscape architecture. His work — whether shaping landscapes, designing spaces, or preserving fruit — is always about form, material, and care.
Together, we bring this perspective to every item we offer. We’re not trend-driven. We value craftsmanship over mass production, and storytelling over sameness. From our seagrass rugs handwoven in Vietnam to our linen pendants crafted in small batches, every piece has a reason for being here.
Our vision is to build more than a brand — we want Ochre & Silk to be a destination for those seeking beauty with depth, simplicity with soul, and design that honours both people and planet.
Whether you’re adding a single item or styling an entire space, we hope what you find here makes you feel more connected — to your home, to your values, and to the life you’re creating.
